What is the legal position regarding disabled parking bays ?

I do find it quite irritating when blue badge holders park in parent and child spaces. There isn't some sort of heirarchy in car parks and those with limited mobility certainly don't get priority over everyone else. If you park in a parent and child space, why can't I park in the disabled bay?

I still think parent and child spaces should be much further away from the entrance. Those with children don't need to walk a shorter distance, they just need a wider space that has a safe route to the shop doors.
As it happens I also think they should have specific 'wheelchair' spaces. Someone who has dementia doesn't need to fully open the car doors in the same way that someone who has a wheelchair does.

It's a shame that some people abuse the systems but the same goes for all areas of life.
