Morning , just sharing as quite nervous today
Currently :
Mortgage offer received and Halifax Valuation OK , a week or so ago , the survey on the house were selling was yesterday (offer accepted 4 weeks ago) and we have out fingers crossed on that , though we know the house is strong and good , but there is always the worry....
All conveyencing both sides kicked off over a week ago , estimated completion mid august (we wanted earlier but this is the most likely)
Today , we have what is making me nervous , the full structural on the house were buying , been around it many times , and `confident` it`s ok , but will be very very glad and hopefully can relax for a while when i have the report in my hand..
What a process , i can see why i/we rented for so many years!

Be prepared to initially feel worried when the survey comes back! It took me 48 hours to digest mine and realise it wasn't as bad as I thought. In my head I was expecting 'what a lovely house you've done really well there!' Haha! Naive!
We're completing tomorrow, I've felt a bit wobbly today, thinking have we done the right thing, is it what I really want....I think it's the unknown of owning a house rather than renting, and saying goodbye to the house I've rented and loved, but been forced out of that's making me feel worried.
It'll come good I know.
Fingers crossed for you.0 -
Just to give you a heads up: the report will flag EVERYTHING! Be prepared for that and ideally read it over with someone who is familiar with them (e.g. your solicitor or a friend who gas bought recently). If you read the average report it could put you off buying but most things flagged are not issues and are only being flagged, more to cover the surveyor's back. If there is a serious problem it will usually be obvious in the report.0

Hi , thankls both , yeah , i am prepared for the report being in detail about everything , my wife and i are well prepared , we understand that if we wanted no issues , we should have bought a new build! we are aware of a couple of things already from when i took a builder mate round , so fingers crossed nothing crops up that we/he didnt spotNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

I had a homebuyers on mine and nearly cried when I saw it. I then spent hours and hours reading, re-reading, on the phone to everyone I could think of who would know, went back to property to look closely at things that had been flagged etc etc until I finally got my head round it, put it in perspective and realised there was nothing there more than general maintenance and nothing urgent.
I was a bit jumpy because I was moving from a house, which probably needed more maintenance than this new one, but that I knew inside out, to something I didn't know as well. Having now moved, it was absolutely the right thing and I am not nearly so stressed about some of the things picked up which are small jobs really and I will get to as and when time and finances allow.
Had to laugh at the bit where the surveyor suggested that I remove the decking on the patio because "it will be slippery when wet".0 -

Ha ha ha ha ha .... Oh, ha ha ha
No, you'll be fine with what you are doing. There'll be scary words in that that report, but just digest it slowly. (Get an email copy, than you can highlight away, leaving a pristine copy)
If you've taken a tame builder around, when the report starts frightening you with 'orrid words, take it to him. He'll tell you it's overreaction, or that it'll be sorted for a few quid... hopefully.
No issues... new build... Made my day, that has0 -
