LOL. Wearing a suit doesnt mean anything :rotfl:
Wearing a suit means absolutely nothing about a persons character nor their intentions.

Sorry but just could not resist

I don’t understand why it’s not obvious to the powers that be that you have a Rail Card having bought a ticket on that basis?

    Tickets bought online.

Tickets bought from ticket vending machines.

    Tickets bought by third parties.

Tickets bought in advance of the purchase or renewal of a railcard.

    The list is endless.

And the only ones in that photo I'd trust are the 4 not wearing suits.

I still can't get annoyed at Barack :)

I think the key is probably that the railcard has a photo that shows the ticket inspector on the train that the person with the railcard is indeed the person travelling with the ticket.

If you just needed the card to purchase a ticket but not at the time you travelled, it wouldn't be long before some bright sparks worked out that a single person with a single railcard could buy cheap tickets for a train full of passengers.....

I have used both network railcard and family and friends railcard and neither of these have photo ID on them!!

Not sure what point you are trying to make, but the OP's daughter wasn't using either of those railcards.

It may be worth noting that a Senior Railcard doesn't need a photo either.

However, the most likely railcard being used would be a 16-25 railcard which does require photo id.

SIXTY QUID! That's a bit harsh! How annoying though. We have a family and friends railcard, and half the time, we aren't even asked to show it. But you can bet that the one time we forget it; THAT will be the time they demand to see it.

That said, 3 times out of 4, we buy the tickets on the day, (so we obviously have the card with us.) And if we don't; we buy them and put them 'in' the railcard wallet, so we can't go without the card. Maybe a little tip for your daughter John... :)

I bought a rail ticket for my mum, who is entitled to a Senior Card. I bought it 12 weeks before she travelled, so as to get the best price. The day before she travelled, she went to the station and bought her senior railcard.

If the OP had his way, my mum would have either had to pay a walk-on fare, which was 5 times the cost of the advance, or she would have had to purchase her railcard 12 weeks earlier than it was needed.

Abuse of the system is widespread hence why the penalty fare. It doesnt matter what someone is wearing, race, religion or sex they can all be fare evaders.

I used to be a ticket inspector for a short while.I remember catching 4 girls travelling together all with discounted YP railcard tickets but only one had the card.

In fact i caught a lot who "had forgot it". Do these same people forget their passports when they go on holiday ?

Treat the £60 as a life lesson and count herself lucky she didnt go to court.More and more are going to court now because a national database of fare evaders is used.Get caught up north then get caught down south and you could be facing a magistrate.
It really isnt worth the risk imo.
