I hardly get any cold calls now, as when I answered I just asked them to take my number of their calling list. It has worked for me!

I would not be pleased if I continued to receive calls from a company when I had requested that they didnt contact me.

Its amazing how many times my landline rings in a day. Strange that, ive only had the new number a few weeks and neither me or my husband have given it to anyone.

I ignore all calls. Everyone who is important rings our mobiles.

Households signed up to the Telephone Preference Service still receive twice as many telemarketing calls as those who haven’t registered, research has found.''

If it's worked for you then you're one of the lucky ones cos it hasnt stopped calls here. I actually went to register again wondering if it ''ran out'' or somehting and it told me i was already registered.

Registering with TPS doesn't get rid of the cold calls altogether neither does asking them to take your number off the system. I have once said to a person cold calling when asking for a Mr phillip king that's not my name by the way I said no I'm his brother stephen and I am currently writing a new book about a serial killer going after cold callers.

How do they know? Do they cold call people registered with them to ask??? Or have they based it on the people who have complained?? In which case it is hardly a normal cross-section.. you won't complain if it is all ok would you?

Plus it is the DM.. not a particularly reliable source of info.

And.. if you have registered a new number in the last few years the contacts lists used by cold callers can be up to 5 years old so they aren't updated with the TPS registrations omitted.

I've had 3 numbers registered and never had an issue.. BUT.. I don't fill out surveys and ALWAYS make sure the 'do not pass my details on' boxes are ticked. I don't give out my phone number, it is also ex directory.. unless it is to someone who insists they have a contact number and I don't want to talk to them :p We don't ever answer the landline. I don't click on adverts online and have software to prevent most invasions of my details.

I do think a lot of these things are due to people not being careful about who they pass their details on to.. if you request a quote online for something for example.. insurance, new windows, etc they usually ask for a number which can easily be passed around similar places and sister companies..

I cannot remember the last time we had someone ring. I had a window company phone a few weeks ago after I contacted them 3 years ago for a quote and got the work done elsewhere as it is much cheaper.. but following a lead like that is not really a cold call.

  • It is a really big problem though, if they are not after you by phone, they come to your house and even when you go out shopping you have to avoid them in the streets.

There are pilot schemes near me where a group of streets are no cold calling areas, they should do this all over, least thats one lot gone from contacting you.

I loathe the door knocking.. it takes me ages and a fair dose of pain to get to the door... I don't understand why they even bother down here.. 90% are students so don't care or have any control over anything relating to the house.. Those lovefilm ones I am sick to death of.. we had about 10 in the last 6 months.. this week it was sky.. they went next door too.. the house with the 3 dishes outside!!

And junk mail.. I post it back.. soon stops most of it.

Ooh.. fast food leaflets.. I hate those too.. we get millions because apparently that is all students are capable of eating!

I have 3 no cold calling stickers and they still knock. As for leaflets I have a no junk mail sign but all I can think is they don't read english the ones who post them through. gets you demented lol. Oh and also the postman is guilty of a heap of junk mail too, but apparantly that is keeping royal mail going so we have to grin and bear it!
