Xmas Saver!
Hello There,

I like the look of the chromebooks. for several reasons:

No need to put security on them
No long boot up time
I use Chrome as my browser on laptop anyway as I like it's no fuss look
Updates it's self so no long periods when your computer is saying configuring or restarting

What I don't like is the small 10.6 inch screen

The thing I use my laptop for most apart from the normal web browsing/buying is entering competitions. I have Lastpass which is a program which stores all my passwords for free. I am using lastpass with the chrome browser on my laptop. What I would like to know is does lastpass work on the Chromebooks?

And can you plug in a mouse to use that instead of the touch pad?

Thank You xxx

Lastpass won't work, but Chrome will manage passwords for you
You can get larger, better screens, in fact look at the Chromebook Pixel as an example of the best of genre (at a price).

Mouse should be just fine if you use a usb one afaik

I don't use lastpass on my chromebook - when I log onto a site it asks me if I want to save the password, and then next time it completes it automatically. There is also an auto-fill setting that completes name and address details on forms. Mine is the new samsung chromebook wifi launched Oct 2012, £206 on Amazon, 11.6" screen. I like it so much that it has become my main laptop, and my other 15.6"screen 'proper' laptop is rarely used these days. One of the biggest advantages is speed - it has little internal gubbins so no need for anti virus, and boots from off to fully functioning in about 7 seconds!

    Thank You Both,

Does it cope with two or three windows open at once?

My Mouse is wire free type?

I always have 4 windows open as I monitor my gmail accounts on the first three, and work on the 4th one. Depending on what I am doing I may have twice that number open. It copes with this with ease.

I can't comment on the mouse issue, as I use the touch pad and up/down arrows (for scrolling).

Just had a look - you can get wired and wireless mouses (mice?) for the chromebook see here (american site but similar available on amazon)

You might also want to browse the chromebook users forums, as they are a mine of information.

When you see the specs and price of the Google Chromebook Pixel, it kicks most PC's in tender regions - most certainly you can do multiple things at once.

Much as I love my little chromebook, there is no way I'd consider spending £999 on a Chromebook Pixel.

USB mouse will work. Bluetooth mouse will work, wireless mouse with a dongle will work, as long as it identifies itself as a standard mouse. The setup disc will be no use as it'll have Windows and Mac software on it. The software may or may not be useful.
Chome the OS can do multitasking/multi windows/multi tabs just great, but you'll still have hardware limitations as to what you can do all at once.
If the little screens are too small for you HP has brought out a 14 inch Chromebook. I'm sure if you search for it you'll find it. Looks a bit like a 5 year old cheapo laptop, but if you're fully invested in the Google ecosystem, for the reasons you give yourself, you may think it's a better option.
