British Credit Trust - Are they pulling a fast one?

I am dealing with a PPI reclaim on behalf of my boyfriend. He took credit out to pay for new windows in his house and the finance was with British Credit Trust. Safestyle fitted the windows.

I sent a standard PPI reclaim letter and British Credit Trust have replied with the following,

We write further to your recent letter regarding your payment protection insurance policy.

However, upon investigation it appears you opted for this particular payment protection policy at the time of the finance agreement; therefore, the insurance was actually arranged by the broker.

As a result, you should direct your complaint directly to the broker, Pinnacle FBS. Their details can be found on the FSA register at fsa.gov.uk/register

According to our database their address is: Pinnacle Finance and Business Services, (address details)

We also believe this broker is no longer trading therefore we would advise referring your complaint to the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), more details of this service can be located by visiting fscs.org.uk

Personally I think they are trying to pass the buck. The PPI was added in by the broker arranging the finance. My boyfriend was told at the time that he had to take out the PPI otherwise his application would be refused.

Is there anyone who can help?
