Name change and Natwest account

Hi

I apply for my a natwest current account online and had been accepted after they did my ID check online ( Driving Licence, MAstercard).

But they asking me to come to the branch with my valid visa because their policy is to see the visa once they give overdraft on the account to the non EU national.

My problem is i changed my name few months ago from (eg: John smith to William John smith ) and that has been certified by foreign office and changed my name on to my driving licence but as for the visa is concern i have got settlement visa and it come with a Biometric card so didn't bother yet to change it just because will be applying for my UK passport in few months.

Would they accept me with my settlement card and deed poll along with my driving licence.

Please advice.

No and with good reason. Why did you have to change your name?

To me it sounds like this will fail the security checks the banks introduced after 9/11.

Well I'm from UAE and my name is ALI ALHANI but that is the common practice and tradition we always use MUHAMMAD as first name and then the full name so what i did Is made the addition at my starting name and which has been certified by foreign office and used to change my driving licence and it work fine without problem.

And officially I'm using my new name and also made changes to my other bank account providing them the deed poll as mentioned.


Wondering if natwest will reject me cos I got my old name on my resident permit?

Yes they should reject you until you get your name changed on the visa as well.

Just to give you update, i went to natwest branch today and they have accepted me with new name providing the deed poll which has been certified by FCO & took copies of my visa, driving licence and my other bankstatement.

Banker confirmed with their head office and gave me green signal.
