Squeaking or creaking gearstick
What would cause a squeaking/creaking gearstick? Its only when changing between 1st and 2nd. Its a 208, but I want to know what the cause could be before getting palmed off by the dealer.
I can sort of 'feel' it through the gearstick too.

Probably just needs a splash of lubricant (NOT WD40, this is more solvent than lubricant). If you lift the gear stick gator, the noise is probably coming from in there.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Gear linkage underneath the car from the end of the gearstick to the gearbox may be damaged or need attention. I had a Citroen with a similar problem. It sorted itself out.0

linkage at bottom of gearstick,if its made of nylon(plastic) surprisingly enough a good spray of furniture polish would help more than a spray oil,may not last too long though and likely need some part of linkage replaced.0
