What shall I do to move quick?

Options
Hi guys, I need advice.

I shared a flat with my gf until it recently came to an end and she's now moved out (her stuff is still in the flat which I'm sure will be collected soon). I can just about cover the cost but after some thinking, I've decided I want to move into somewhere cheaper, as cheap as possible where I can just save up as much money as possible. I've spoken to my letting agents, now they're moving me onto a month-month tenancy come July 31 (the end of current tenancy), which is fine but according to them I have to give 2 months notice anyhow. Now this is a problem as most landlords won't wait 2 months with an empty property...

I'm tempted to hand in my 2 months' notice and just view properties when they come up in the meantime and just take the best one nearer the end of the notice period. I'm not particularly picky, I'm not waiting out for a killer property, I'll just take something relatively cheap and in a good location with the basics.

Is it a good idea or a terrible idea. If it was a month notice it would so much bloody easier.

Any help would be appreciated.

You do not have to give two month's notice to move out of a property at the end of the fixed-term. In fact, you don't have to give them any notice at all, although it would be polite to do so.

Make your plans to move out and let them know as soon as you can if you decide to move out t the end of July. They won't get anywhere with the deposit-protection scheme if they try to demand rent in lieu of notice
