Parking Eye Charge Notice when my car broke down

Hi All,
Today I have received a Parking Charge Notice as I overstayed by 14 minutes - the reason being is that my car would not start!
Should I write and explain this to them? I have store receipts from the shopping I did there and also a recepit for the part that I purchased for my car the following day to fix the 'not starting' problem, or is it best to go straight in with the templates I have found on other threads?
Thank you for your help :-)

Who issued this ticket? A council or private entity? This is important as what you need to do now is very different for each.0

You owe Parking Eye nothing. Did you get the notice via the post or with something stuck to your windscreen ?0 -

Oops! Just re-read thread title!
- If its parking eye, you stop worrying and don't take them seriously.
First-up, was this in England and Wales or Scotland and NI? Again this has bearing on what you do next.

Sorry to be at odds with you on this but I think you do need to take PE seriously as they can cause you quite a bit of grief over the coming months if you take them too lightly.
You need to follow the process precisely to extract a POPLA code from them, and with help from this forum (or Pepipoo) you can develop a POPLA appeal which has recently been seeing PE off. This is the quickest way to get them off your back.
Miss out on POPLA and you could easily be faced with months of uncertainty possibly ending with Letters Before Action and even County Court papers.
OP - just as a matter of interest was this an Aldi car park, please? Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Sorry - have only just found all of your replies and have since posted again! It was at The Range store in Southampton. I received a letter through the post from Parking Eye so am assuming that explaining my situation to The Range will make no difference.
Thank you all for helping :-)0 -

You assume completely wrong. PE are the agents of the Store, so BLAME THE RANGE FOR THIS HARASSMENT OF COURSE!
For example, look at what is currently happening on Aldi's facebook page as it goes into meltdown with complaints about Parking Eye!
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4660007
First port of call is back to the Range to complain to the Store Manager (NOT to the teenager on the CS desk, the STORE MANAGER). If they are the only store in that car park (or the main one) then it's odds-on that the Range Store Manager can cancel these if customers complain quickly. That's the easiest approach first - especially if you are a customer waving a receipt or two & being really assertive about the scam fake fine.
If not, if having to appeal, you just need to send a short challenge to the scammers like on this thread:
http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?...st=20&start=20
Or like the ones Parking Prankster used recently to seriously annoy and then to defeat Highview (Tesco's PPC agent); have a laugh, THESE ARE HILARIOUS! A must-read for anyone with a Retail Store fake PCN!

and
http://parking-prankster.blogspot.co...-of-wrong.html
After the first challenge there's a second stage when PE reject your appeal; you then send a strong appeal to POPLA if rejected.
Parking Prankster has done so lots of times, with a short/funny appeal first then a serious one to POPLA (we can guide you to the right strong POPLA stage wording).
If the funny versions don't appeal use one from the examples I first linked. You won't be paying this so have some fun with it if you have to appeal, but complain first.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Just a quick update - I phoned and spoke to The Range who asked me to bring my PCN and my store receipt in and they would contact PE to cancel the PCN. I did this a couple of days ago so here's hoping....0
