    Thanks.

But could you explain how I go about storing it in the first place!

    Thanks

    Hi,
I explained earlier in the thread that all you need to do is copy the file or folder to your 'My Dropbox' location on the PC in exactly the same way you would share a photo.

However, we may have two specific issues here -one is how do I make a DVD into a file I can share with someone and then the dropbox bit.

With regards to the DVD - is it a commercial purchase such as a dvd of a movie? Does it have some files that someone has created and simply copied to dvd as a convenient way of transferring them to you? Maybe they are files that some digital camera software has automatically created a dvd for you?
I think that once we know what the origin and what is on the DVD we can then tell you 100% what to do next.

    Hope this helps.

What I do on Google Drive is convert CDs (non commercial) to ISO files - which is basically a self contained file containing everything on the CD or DVD.

There's plenty of free software that allows you to burn the ISO back onto a physical disk, and plenty of free software that allows you to 'mount' the ISO as a virtual drive, so it behaves the same as if you'd put the physical disk in the physical drive.

As it's a single file, it's easy to upload to Google Drive - you just click a link, browse to where it is on your computer, and off it goes to upload. You get a web based file browser so you can see and manage your files.

    Pretty ridiculously easy.

    I use copy.com which give 15gb.

You might be better off with Google Drive, it has much more space.

I use Drive for long term cloud storage, and Dropbox for more short term sharing of small files.

Also have a look at Sugarsync which is similar and has more space with the free account.
Sugarsync give 5Gb free but this deal is really well hidden on their website. The link you need to get straight to it is here: https://www.sugarsync.com/free/

    :)
This website has most of the other dropbox alternatives:

Is your purpose for using drop box for this video to share the video or to back it up?

    Good Morning Folks

I have copied the DVD on to Drop Box, but it does not 'play'.

It is not a commercial one. Basically, I recorded a birthday party on a HI 8 camcorder tape and got someone to copy the tape on to a DVD. It is this DVD that I want to store and play on Drop Box.

    Any further advice much appreciated.

What format is the file in? I.E. what is the filename extension, wma, wmv, mp4 etc.?

  • I bet it's VOB files.. if it is, then you'll need to get the recipient to download them and play them through VLC
