How long a wait for ESA backpay?

Hi,
My husband won his ESA tribunal on 10th June after a long 14 months wait. The guy where the tribunal took place informed us it would be a couple of weeks until we received the 14 months backdate we are entitled to. My husband today phoned the DWP to enquire and we were told it could actually be 6-8 weeks!!!! I am wondering how long on average it took for people in a similar situation recently?
Thanks in advance. x

It's so wrong! Makes me so angry!
Does anyone know if we also have to wait this long before we start receiving the correct amount of ESA on a fortnightly basis or will that automatically be updated? I think I can guess the answer

You guessed correct, nothing changes till the backpay is sorted.0

Hi, I won my tribunal hearing yesterday so will also be due a backpayment. Will it be from the original decision date or the date when I filled out the ESA50?
Thanks0 -
Still waiting believe it or not! It's disgusting how they can get away with doing this to us "scroungers".0

Are still getting assessment rate? Are you still having to send in fit notes?
Have you been in touch with them at all?
It might be worth emailing them a copy of the appeal notice, just in case some bright spark filed it under waste paper basket.0 -
I would recommend phoning up as asking about it again. Thats what I did and I got my backpay in 3 weeks. Partly because they kept asking me for sick notes though and my claim ended up being passed to my local office who made a manual payment. I received just over £1000 in back pay which was just over a years worth, so your Husband should be due to more than that.0

About 18 months ago I went to a WCA on a Monday and my back pay was in my account on the Friday.
I don't suppose that would happen now but it does seem to very round the country.0 -
It's bad enough that claimants are waiting over a year for an appeal tribunal while receiving a reduced rate of ESA. But things will get a lot worse in October when the mandatory reconsideration before appeal rule is enforced as part of the Tories' Welfare Reform Act.
Effectively, it means that claimants will not receive any ESA payments during the reconsideration period, which has no time limit and could take months.0 -
I was on IB, failed a medical in Jan 2013, appealed, re-appealed and that was sent to tribunal. Went to tribunal 26 July, nice judge put me into Wrag. Rang dwp yesterday to ask about payment increase and backpay, could be 6 to 8 weeks before I see it. Bombshell after that is that my contribution esa runs out in Jan 2014 on the 365 days ruling then it will be income based. WHAT? I've only just been awarded it in July after almost 8 months on eesa. Come January I'll get nothing cos my husband works full time but can't afford to pay bills etc on his wage plus my low rate DLA. HELP please.0
