I'm all for a local income tax instead of the present method, our bill would drop to 35% of what we now pay!0

ferry and anyone else having difficulty paying council tax.
Ask the council if you can pay over 12 months instead of 10. It is possible to do so in some areas.
Would be a bit less each month for you.0 -

Assuming we were in the UK, ours would drop too, in fact we would probably have to pay very little.
However, I don't agree with this at all, as everyone gets the same services, therefore imho, everybody should be eligible to pay the same amount (this is the dreaded poll tax, which in principle I agreed with). Why should only high wage earners have to pay? They already pay more tax!
However, it could then be taken on ability to pay, with the poorest of us not paying much at all, as is the case with Council tax. However, everyone should pay something.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

Nice to know someone else didn't hate the Poll tax, or community charge as I think it was called. When it came in it saved me a small fortune. We all evolve - get on with it0 -

Agreed. I can never understand the philosophy that the higher earners should pay more than those less able.
If you have neighbours in identical houses, using the same services, why should the person who earns more have to pay more than his/her neighbour - ridiculous. As is already mentioned, they will already contribute more in terms of income tax - why should they be penalised again?
Bring back the Poll Tax !!!:pWARNING!Alcohol can make you think you are more interesting and attractive than you actually are.....0
