  • I've been brainstorming over the weekend for ways to make extra money to pay off the debts quicker or put some money towards doing some work in the garden, so far I've got - switching bank account (if anyone has done this how did it go? and do you have to close your old account?), getting a 2nd work from home job, online surveys - I already do You Gov and Prolific, selling stuff, starting a business (not sure what doing yet - so any ideas would be welcome) anything obvious I have missed?

    Hello there,

Just found your diary and wanted to pop my head in and say congrats on the new job. Its great news youre out of the toxic work situation. It makes a huge difference to be free of it.
I didn't get the luxury of planning my children. It was try now or never. Luckily i fell pregnant. However its had a big impact on my career and my money. We've been on hardly any for ages. We are coming out the other side now with them both going to school. Its hard as now we can start earning money its all going into the debt void we built when very little was coming in. You can have a baby when youre in debt but its hard. And enthusiastic is right, it's not buying the pram thats the challenge, its the reduction in income and the childcare thats hard. Try and have as little behind you as possible xxx

  • Thanks Kitten, with the current plans I think the earliest that we would be having a baby would be May next year and currently I'm paying off around £1000pm month off the debts and the car loans so potentially we could get the debt down to around £9k - which is still a lot but a lot less than now and I think it would be manageable. I'm excited to get to my new job and find out what the maternity pay will be like as the benefits are pretty good anyway. I don't know if I have mentioned previously but both parents and my husbands mum live near by so they have already said they can help out with childcare so we might only need a couple of days a week covering
