you mean something like this?

an sd card has a limited life (in terms of number of times you can write on it).... so it would not be best for CCTV purposes0 -

I didn't know that about SD cards. Is there anything else I could use?Wins 2014 - ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVYXYZ

A mate of mine has one that has 4x cameras, and records on a hard drive. It is a self contained unit that you would hide in the premises. The cameras are infra red for night time, and it does only record when motion is detected. However insects flying in front of the cameras can trigger it. It is also linked into the alarm, and will alert him on his smart phone, where he can also view the cameras.
I should think it is quite expensive. How much were you looking at spending?0 -

I'm not entirely sure that is any more true about SD cards than about any other recordable media. But for all practical intents and purposes this is irrelevant - even if there is a finite number of writes, this would still last you years before you had to change the card because of this.
A much bigger concern with SD cards to me would be that they are all quite small in recordable volume - you wouldn't fit more than a a few days' recording on it.0 -

You didn't specify how many cameras you require? If it is only 1 at the moment with the ability to add up to 3 more later, have a look at this from Maplin:

They currently have a B-grade unit which is within your budget:

Just a minor thing... double check what permissions/approvals you may require prior to the installation of any CCTV system. Start with Planning at the Local Authority first.0
