Unlocking and relocking WEP

After being a slack !!! for months and leaving my connectipon I finally got round to securing my network. I followed some instructions and it was really simple. Unfortunately they didn't tell me that the 10 numbers I put in were the password and I needed to keep these. Obvious looking back and I'm clearly a numpty (although I was actually quite impressed with myself for managing to do it in the first place). Please can someone help me to unlock it? Just to clarify, when I try to access my wireless network now it asks me for a network key - is this the 10 numbers I use? I think once I unlock it I should be fine to relock and jut note these numbers if this is the case. One other quickie - is there any way of logging my computer in automatically or do I just remember the 10 digits this time and have to log in each time?

Thanks in advance

Best get into your router config screen (on 192.168.0.1 for a Netgear) and copy it from there. This is best done using wired access to the router.

BTW WEP can be cracked in minutes so you should be using WPA-2 if your system allows it. See the sticky on this subject.

Time to read the sticky then! But if you can't find the info you need, pls post back with the make / model of your router and the wireless adapter/card.

attach it with an ethernet cable

    start run
    cmd
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    ipconfig

note the gateway address, and put it in internet explorer

    e.g.

    http://192.168.0.1 for netgear
    http://192.168.1.1 linksys
    http://192.168.2.1 belkin

then go to the wireless security bit, and find or reinput a new key
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
