New Seller on EBay

Hi

I am looking to get rid of a load of things I no longer need and to raise some money.

I thought I would give ebay a try but finding it all a bit confusing with regards to fees and how to charge for postage.

How do other people do it? Do you just charge a standard price for postage?

I'm looking to sell everything from clothes and shoes to glass jars and cd's

Any tips would be greatly appriciated!:j

Stuff like glass jars - umpteen a penny everywhere. Too heavy/fragile to risk in the post.

Check items similar to yours under the sold info. If it didn't sell for someone else or went for 99p then yours isn't likely to go for much either.

Don't bother with Ebay for everyday stuff. do a car boot sale or use your local free ads paper e.g. Friday Ad or Ad Trader or similar - depends where you are.

    List items for FREE.

Buyer comes to your door with cash & takes items away.

    No fees, no aggro.

(I only use ebay now for large stuff that needs a wider area & I do it all with cash upon collection only. No paypal fees that way :p)

My tip is to never ever guess postage, stars are everything and get postage wrong a few times and you'll either lose a fortune or end up suspended with poor stars.

As advised above, check out completed listings before you do anything, if something looks like it might sell then weigh it together with packaging and use the RM site to price the postage. If item exceeds small packet size on RM then consider a courier. If stuff is going for pennies, or not at all then car boot instead.

The postage sticky thread explains about postage and what you need.

If you're selling less than 12 or so things a year, stars don't matter.

They would if you got lows- you can't see the expanded dasboard until you have 10 sets of stars, but ebay still know they are there.

To reiterate and emphasise what others have said, check the postage. 9, 10, 12 quid to send an item is not unusual. I still see people in the post office saying, "I've learnt my lesson - I'm giving up eBay"

agree as above. postage now the bugbear of many as rm have specific sizes for small medium and large packets. know what box/envelope item will be packed in, weigh it with packaging. never guesstimate. i was less than 1/2 cm with one box recently and the excess would have cost be over £15! ended up spending half the morning cuting the box up and repacking...
