Son is under 25 and is about to move into a one bed flat at the cost of £350 a month plus council tax etc.
He works over 30 hrs a week can he get any housing benefit to help with the rent. He earns about 14 thousand a year i think.
Thanks

He might get the shared room rate of housing benefit but nothing more than that. Not sure if he earns too much to claim though!

The Benefit cap rules will limit benefits to £350 pw week for single claimants. This is based on the median earnings after tax so I don't think a gross wage of £14k is that much to be honest, apparently lower than the average in the UK. Dont ask me where they get these figures but there you go!
In relation to rent etc, it may well be seen as high but I don't think it's a massive amount overall.
Op - if living alone, he will be entitled to 25% discount on his Ctax regardless of income with his Single Person Discount.I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

what is the LHA for shared accommodation in the area that he will be living. This is the amount that will be used in calculations for housing benefit not the £350...eg if the LHA is £52 per week then housing benefit will use £225 as the rental figure and then reduce based on his earnings.
I would expect that he is unlikely to qualify but you can use http://www.entitledto.co.uk/calculator/ for an idea0
