Hi, i wonder if any of you knowlegeable people can help me with this one..
I decided to start selling on Ebay, normally just buy. I set up a personal paypal account yesterday, and used it to pay for 4 items, which worked great, items are now being sent to me.
Then my item was 'brought now', and the buyer clicked paypal.
I got an email saying I had paypal payment, and when I clicked 'accept', I got a page saying as I held a personal account, it can't accept credit card payments and I'd have to refuse.
I clicked refuse, and emailed the buyer, and he seemed confused, as he said he's never had this problem before. I then sent him a paypal request for money instead, but buyer seems to be confused, as apparently at his end, it says payment has already been made.
I am very confused!!
I am new to PP, and don't know what to do next. Should I just upgrade my PP account( like it's promptimg me to do..) and pay the fees for recieving money, or what?
I don't really want to do this, as I only have a few items to sell, so don't really want to pay fees.
Please can someone advise, as I have to email the buyer back soon, and I was planning to post the item to them today.
Thank you!

There are two types of paypal account:
the personal account can only accept money straight from another person's paypal account (obviously it has to have at least the amount of money in their account)
the premier account can accept all the forms of payment (paypal/bank account/credit card) but you have to pay a fee for each transaction
If you are selling on ebay then you
a) can't list paypal as an official payment option (at least you can't show the picture, but could list it as an alternative payment method) if you only have the personal account because you can't accept all types of payment
b) really should think about upgrading so you can say you accept paypal
If this is a one off set of items you are going to sell then you could email the buyers and tell him/her to transfer funds to their paypal account to pay you, or you can upgrade for these transactions then downgrade afterwards (be warned that you can only downgrade once however).
Given that you'll probably want to sell more than just this lot of items I suggest you just upgrade and pay the fees0 -
Ah, I didn't realise that I shouldn't have used the paypal logo on accepted methods of payment if i only had a personal account...
Took me ages to get to grips with it all as it was( dumb blonde alert..argh)
Ok, now I've upgraded, but the buyers payment was rejected this morning- any ideas on what i do? Will the pay by paypal option still be availaible when he clicks on the item, so we can try again?
I tried calling Paypal's helpline, but have been cut off twice so far.. Hmm.
Thank you very much Stav for your help.

It's a bit confusing if it says that he's paid his end ... I don't know why that is? You could get him to go into ebay and try and pay again, but if he can't you can send him an invoice from paypal easily enough: https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_request-money-invoice0

Once you have the upgraded account you will have to pay to receive each payment however funded via paypal.
You don't have to pay to withdraw the money to your bank account though as long as you withdraw a minimum of £50 each time.
