Hi All
I have a new Toshiba stor.e 1TB HDD and have been transferring pics and music to it and everything was fine, I ejected it but when I plugged it back in I get the message:
F: is no accesible
Data error (cyclic recovery check)
Had a quick search and it says to run cmd and chkdsk but that just says:
The type of the file system is RAW
CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives
Please can anyone help?
Thanks

moving or copying? (external drives are best used for backup not originals, unless unimportant)
if it does the same on another machine it's probably bust - you could take the internal hard disk out and try it internally, or in another caddy.!!

I was moving them (copying some to my embarrassment?!).
It recognises a disk as such but asks me to format so hoping there is something I can do.0 -
Just saw your post and remembered reading something about recovering files from a RAW file system. Luckily I bookmarked it for future reference. It's here:
http://www.squidoo.com/usb-drive-raw-recovery
It links to free software called: ICare Data Recovery
Good luck.0 -
you could also try

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/PC-Inspector-File-Recovery.shtml

copy is better than move, because copy leaves them on the c drive, so you have two copies!!

Thanks Knarf44 & closed.
I will check through them and post back! In the meantime I ran Recuva and that has found alot of files on my original HD.
Once done does anyone have any recommendation as to how I should partition the HD? This time, closed!, I will definitely copy first - both to HD and Cloud before deleting! I'm going to invest in a further desktop back up HD as well, this one is a portable USB one.0 -
Have been running the 1Care recovery tool for the last 3 1/2 hours and it is still going but I just noticed that at the top it says about restoring 10 files for free, please tell me this will do it and I won't have to pay if anyone knows. Thanks0

Still haven't managed to find any free software that can do the job, they all offer to do a few files and then want £60 to do the rest. Can anyone recommend any truely free software please, thanks.0

Was it "cyclic redundancy check" you were getting?
If so, don't do anything without reading it a couple if times but is this thread any help

portable drives have the advantage that they dont require external power and are quiet
did a recuva deep scan not find anything? how much data are we talking about?

master copies are best left on the c: drive imo, and multiple external drives/dvd's used for backup, and a disk image backup saves a lot of time when a pc won't boot.
