New York hotel

Oh my, sooooo confused. Going to NY for 3 nights 1st till 4th Sept then travelling on from there. I have been looking at hotels, 1 room for 3 adults, getting very confused don't know weather to stay in Midtown or travel in from a bit further out.
I have found 3 nights in the Milford Times sq for about £600, I though it sounded OK then I started reading about renovations!! Anyone stayed somewhere nice recently for around about that price?

Not sure what price it will be ( labour day weekend in USA) But I have stopped at the Pearl hotel on 49th street 3 times in the last 2 years.

Hotel Metro on West 35th Street. Fantastic views of the Empire State building from the roof terrace, five minutes' walk from Macy's and the Empire State, ten minutes walk to Penn and Grand Union stations. Cold breakfast rather than cooked may be a disincentive, but the muffins are nice, and it is thrown in.

the westin in times square is wonderful, great location and if you can get it for £200 a night that would be a deal

do check out companies like jetsetter, voyage prive, sniqueaway etc as they often have hotel deals for new york - I am presently looking for the end of october but no hotels available for that month yet, they do go up to the end of sep so its worth taking a look to see what they have available on offer

if you are thinking of the westin, then do join their club as they often have offers and you can get upgrades if you are with their club

Jackieblack, I didn't know there was one, I will look it out, thank you.
I guess waht I'm hoping for is just a small hidden gem with a reasonable price, dosen't need to be a big chain.
