A little advice for a newbie Gumtree seller please.

Hi, I don't normally sell online, occasionally list the odd pick up item on gumtree that's all.
At the moment I have a wedding dress listed £150 and have had a message, buyer wants a lower price & it posted!
I'm willing to negotiate on price, but was hoping for some advice on 2 things.
1 is payment. Obviously I expected cash on collection, but if it is to be posted I only really want a bank transfer.
Would that be safe for me, I know as a buyer paypal is great, but I don't want to use it for this sale as I need the money asap.
2nd is postage. I've never sent anything expensive by post, and while the style of the dress means it can be folded easily without damage it is quite heavy (fully beaded) and I've no way of easily weighing it just this minute. Any recommendations as I see the Royal Mail prices are rather expensive these days!
Any constructive advice welcome.

A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

Firstly where is the item listed? If it is eBay then you cannot refuse PayPal so it is best to post it rather than allow collection.
Depending on the size and weight of the item when boxed check out the Special delivery costs , alternatively check out a courier.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Like I said, gumtree.
I did check special delivery & thought it was expensive. A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -

Have a look at a courier. I use MyHermes and they are usually fine as long as you box stuff, and then box it again as they handle stuff really harshly.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. There are so many scams on gumtree that it's difficult to keep up with them. My honest advise would be not to post.
I do use the site frequently but am aware that I will have 5 scam replies to every genuine one.0 -
Gumtree has it written all over REFUSE anyone who asks to pay via an online way or bank transfer or ask for items to be posted. It is for LOCAL sales , COLLECT in person with money only, and Gumtree and the police will tell you to beat it when you are fleeced of your dress and the money for payment the address will probably be a hotel room or portacabin! Then the payment will fail of course.
I sold my brothers ex wives wedding dress off on Gumtree. lady came to my house, I left the lady alone in a spare room with a full length mirror she tried it on in private, she liked it , she paid cash and left. That is what you need to do. Sell in person.
It is a lot of RUBBISH about posting it, do not fall for it please, never post items for strangers on a rogue website , unless it is a trusted site with comeback ie ebay!0 -
I've been using Gumtree for a while and have had quite a lot of 'will you post, I'll pay by bank transfer etc' enquiries but have always said sorry I will only accept cash on collection.
Don't leave yourself open to being scammed.0
