unplug the box, pop the card out, leave for a few minutes, plug back in, switch on and wait for it to ask for the card and see how you get on.

To determinr the fault ie; Sky Receiver or Dish/LNB.

You really need to try ( a ) Another Sky Receiver on your dish / cable set up or ( b) try your Sky Box at another location on a friends set up.

That will determine if the Sky Box is faulty or if it is your dish set up.;)

I just had this problem, it was raining (not abnormally heavy rain) and first a hissing came through then the signal was lost completely, saying no satellite signal. Then it happened again, when the rain had stopped... the sky box is under 12 months old so I'm keeping an eye on it though it's working fine at the moment. My neighbour thinks the alignment of the dish could be slightly out, how likely is this on an installation done only at Christmas? :o

We always have problems every time it rains. Always have had. Some channels seem to be worse than others though. Tiny bit of rain and you can't watch it at all

Dish misalignment is very common. The Sky ladder monkeys often chuck it on the wall with only two bolts instead of four and don't spend enough time aligning it. Then the weight of the LNB and cable makes it sag. Then the slightest gust of wind moves it a millimetre and half the signal is lost!

Best bet is to get a larger dish. The versatile "Raven" dish, for example, looks like a Sky dish but has a much larger area.

Our dish only has two bolts :wall: presume that and the signal loss = sufficient grounds to call them out to get the job done properly. Our signal info indicates about 75% signal strength and 50-60% signal quality.

To be honest our whole installation was sloppy, they trailed a wire from the dish down to the ground and into the living room, whereas everyone else has the cable going upwards through the wall cavity hence no risk of idiots trying to climb up it. Yes, it happened once, a drunk party-er tried to climb our gutter and ended up breaking it, together with his collar bone...
