I have a wifi only iPad & have one of these -

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005KLOLM2/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Which I use this with -

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003Z0T3X2/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So if your usage is less than 3gb over 3 months it would cost less than £50 a year, plus the £60 one-off cost of the device.

I have been in lots of different parts of the UK with mine and the three signal has been good pretty much everywhere, even in remote coastal locations, in fact it often has coverage when my EE mobile doesn't!

As the device is unlocked you can use a sim from any network, which is a nice bonus :)

I know that you mean to be helpful, but how does your suggestion of spending £56.19 for a device compare with spending £18.49...keeping in mind the ethos of this website?

As an aside, I paid £18 for exactly the same unit as you have, unlocked.
  • Thank you for all your replies. Much appreciated. Will read through properly when have more time and decide which is the best option. Am very pleased to know that it is possible though!

Way too expensive for a 3G MiFi. Consider getting a Network Locked one and unlocking it yourself.

This one; Huawei WiFi E5332 with a 2GB limit on a 30 day contract £27.50 in total. Cancel the contract on the same day that you activate it. Purchase via Quidco to get £10 back. So £17.50.

    Unlocking £0.99p here

    So £18.49 in total.

That way you are free to use any Network. PAYG or otherwise.

Hi Nifty, I take it I could use say 1 of the data sims in the Huawei device ?

And does it it take a standard size sim ?

    hi niftydigits
do you know if this would work if i took my ipad and this mifi unit to spain on my holidays and purchased a local sim card in spain for surfing as i presume the uk sims used abroad would not work?
    TIA

UK sims can be used abroad, but they can cost quite abit more. as you have to pay roaming charges.

buying a local sim is usually the best way to go

I'm guessing that you meant a THREE mobile broadband data SIM. Yes they take normal sized SIMs. You just need to enter the correct APN and connection details and then set that profile to Default.
