Should I buy a new build?

Utter tosh! The residents of Scotland will still continue buying and selling properties and people will continue to relocate to and from Scotland.
House prices won't 'collapse' whatever happens, but markets hate uncertainty.
There are some genuine downside risks of a yes vote - for example what if the resulting tax regime of an independent Scotland means a 'brain drain' a la Greece, Scotland is under-populated at the best of times. Equally, the remainder of the UK could impose a special tax on 'Scottish second homes' a la Germany.
I somehow doubt the former if oil revenues continue to flow, but the latter wouldn't surprise me0 -
A new build in Inverness, I'd go for it. Price crash after independence - dont think so, I cant imagine Aberdeen having a price crash as long as there is oil coming in regardless of who runs the country.
I love my new build and it has only gone up in price, it never went down. As one person has noted, in Scotland the builders have to provide a percentage of new builds to the Housing Associations so there may be HA houses in your development. I say may as our builder had a large plot of land kept just for the HA houses.
In Inverness you should also have a better standard of house, the builders are all smaller sized, Tulloch or Robertsons and I believe their workmanship is better than say Persimmons.0 -
I have just bought a new build house, admittedly not in Scotland but in the SE and I am delighted with it. Unlike other friends who've recently bought older homes, we have been able to literally move our stuff in, unpack and start living, without the stress of having to do lots of DIY and repairs ourselves. We have a good sized garden, a large garage and the rooms are a really good size, definitely not pokey which is sometimes the perception with new builds.
Older homes aren't necessarily always better and come with their own set of issues and problems.0 -

I want more of a garden than a strip that would be full with a table, chairs and umbrella! No room for shed - and everyone needs a shed! A garage that a car barely fits in, the house next door so close you couldn't walk down the side. Also the parking issue where the drive is barely wide enough and with narrow roads and cars parking on street causing problems would both me.
I know I've been spoilt have a driveway for at least 4 cars plus a huge garden but my house is too big. I no longer need two large reception rooms, a kitchen/dinner and 4 double bedrooms. I also have sea views:) I thought the 4 bed detached houses were okay in size though we would have to get rid of loads of furniture but I quite liked the thought of a cosy sitting room. It's the outside environment. I would find it quite depressing sitting in a garden facing a brick wall just a few feet from my back door and looking out of my bedroom window in the morning and looking into someone else's house.
OH doesn't work anymore and he spends a lot of time out in garden and on drive [STRIKE]prettying[/STRIKE] polishing up his Motorbike!~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

a million times over yes
i bought one last year and already talking about the next new build I'll buy.
I'll never buy anything but a new build. I'll happily pay more even though i have found premium pricing more a myth than reality.
yes go for it!0 -
The other issue to consider when house hunting does the street/estate have children out playing or if a new build estate will it attract families and is there a play area.
For many this is a bonus as they want their own children to have company for others it's a nuisance.
A work colleague who before he retired decided to buy a new build as his final move and because he hated his current neighbours. Knowing him we all said "don't do it" but he was adamant as he loves spending and he loves new things. Within a month of moving in he was complaining of neighbours children playing out and the fact his wall was the most convienent wall for football! Then there was the cars parking on the pavement as the drives only really took one car and some had 2 or 3 cars. But then came his worst nightmare when new planning permission was sought for HA properties next door. The estate set up a FB page dedicated to stopping it which wasn't private and I did post to point out to them that they were doing more harm to their property prices than the planning application!:D~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)
