Thanks for asking this, I wondered how people got these separate pots too. I've just opened up a basic nationwide account for my car tax etc."We are what we eat. Which makes me cheap and fast"

we pay utility, council tax and car insurance bills monthly and have 10 separate ING accounts for things like birthdays, xmas presents, other xmas expense, pet bills, car MOT and tax.
I know its not the best interest rate but it does help us knowing that the money is identified for separate things, and theres not a fortune in there anyway.
For birthday/easter/xmas presents, I worked out how much I would spend on each person, added up and divided by 12 and then transferred the appropriate monthly amount, same with the other bills. that sort of thing appeals to my control freak side!Carolbee0 -

I like ING too, because u can name each account according to what it is... I've only got 4 atm tho. Might be tempted with a couple more coz they're so quick to open and set up.

I have a few different bank accounts.
One for bills- direct debts - credit card bills etc (see my sig, there are many!).. etc. That account I only ever pay into.
Another account for Food shopping and weekly expenses, any school dinners (usually packed lunch) petrol that kind of thing.
I have savings accounts attached to them, one for car and unexpected stuff
One for birthdays and christmas (which dribbles in through the year)
and one for Holiday (which is low priority, only small dribs and drabs end up in there)
I also have a money box at home that I shove in any little extras I get, thats fun money, like cinema etc.I'll get my SOA on here soon
I'm £38.000 (2 loans and lots of cards) in debt. I'm still able to pay all the payments for now. (just) and am Snowballing my payments, throwing all I can at them, and trying to be very money savvy. They are coming down SLOWLY, but hey! down is better than UP right? Light bulb moment - Jan 20070 -
I have an ING account for saving for quarterly or one off things, basically the a/c lets you divide into pots, so
£20 month for christmas
£30 for holiday
£50 for car tax/repairs/MOT/Insurance
£50 for quarterly bills
Money comes straight out when I get paid and I forget about the account until I need the money. Has been working for me f0 -
I have one account with the co-op. Each month I transfer over one figure to them and then divvy this up on the lovely spreadsheet that someone on here did - I can't remember off the top of my head who this was... Sorry!!! The spreadsheet shows how much I have in each of the 'pots', although it is all in one account. If I remember who it is - I'll pop their name on here."A simple life freely chosen is a source of strength. Do not be pursuaded into buying what you do not need or cannot afford."
