We've been there nearly two years, so unlikely from a previous tenant, not impossible, but virtually impossible to prove. We are always very careful, and do not routinely flush them down the toilet, as said before, a few may have gotten down over the course of potty training, but not enough to cause a blockage of the main drain house.
And yet the wet wipes DO appear to have caused the blockage, and MUST have comefrom somewhere....

If you've had 2 blockages cleared already, then obviously it was not the previous tenants 2 years ago..

Might anything else have contributed as well as the 'few' wetwipes? Sanitory towels?

No, it was only wet wipes and tree roots that were mentioned by the contractor. We were never given any info on the causes on the first two blockages, although the first time it happened Wessex Water did say that their drains had backed up further down the system, but never gave us any details.

    They won't.

STOP FLUSHING WET WIPES DOWN THE TOILET AND YOU WON'T HAVE TO PAY

Until you all stop doing this - it doesn't matter if your potty training or not, every time there is a blockage you will be liable for half the cost.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

We don't, and have never routinely flushed them down the toilet, even during potty training. On occasion, the odd one has been flushed by our little'un as he sees that action as the right thing to do (yes I know that it's not but but it's quite difficult to explain the difference between a flush able and non flush able wipe to a 3 year old) I didn't post on this forum looking for parenting advice or to be given the frankly patronising advice of stop flushing wipes. I was trying to find out if anyone had been in a similar situation and learn from their experiences. I have no interest in getting into any slanging matches with anyone. Why do you state we are only liable for half the cost ?

That is more than twice what I paid a while back.

Wipes must be down to you however they got there.

Tree roots must be down to the landlord and indicate a physical defect with the drain which is a potentially more serious problem longer term.

If you want to stay on good terms suggest to the agent a 50:50 split on the basis of the roots.

...........but not enough to cause a blockage of the main drain house.

I guess proving that might be impossible, if they aren't designed to be flushed..

Proving the guy saw a root in the drain, now that might be easy, and I'd say would be enough of a reason why the LL should pay.

It's up to the report.... and I'm guessing that the root will be mentioned (to cover the drain guy's !!!) if it were deemed a problkem

We had an issue with the drains getting blocked as it was uneven so loo roll would get caught and then cause a blockage.

We paid for the work and then took it from the next months rent.

If the drains have blocked in the past when you wasn't using wet wipes that says to me that the drain is as fault.

Just a thought but is the wet wipe and tree excuse just a standard response that some drain companies use. My neighbours were told same and they are an older couple who never even use baby wipes!

They used a different drain company who told them it was a collapsed drain and showed it all on a camera.

Ask Wessex Water to send you reports as to what caused the two blockages they fixed. It may help your case or it may not.
    It's someone else's fault.
