Energy saving lightbulbs help

I've recently replaced most of the lightbulbs in my house with energy saving type ones. Unfortunately I have a couple which have worked for about 6 hours then refuse to work anymore. I thought it may be dodgy bulbs but the replacements do the same. Conventional replacements work fine. Can anyone enlighten me of any reason for this please ?

Are the bulbs from the same lot/shop? If so, try some that are completely different.

What type of fixture are the bulbs going into? Economy bulbs do NOT work in everything e.g. dimmer switches; timer switches (I've found that running an extention cable to the timer at the socket gets around this problem); photo cell circuits; so check out what you are doing as well.

I have had energy saving bulbs which have not worked in some pendant bulb holders. In that case it was their weight which was pulling them away from the contacts in the bulb holder. Lighter, ordinary bulbs did work in the same holders.

not a totally shoddy make then? Maybe they have been treated roughly?

BTW I got Philips 11 & 18W bulbs for 49p(!) each at Morrisons last week the only reason I didn't say anything is because it was a WIGIG and non left... They do this regularily though so keep your eye out!

What sort of light fitting are these bulbs being fitted in? Low energy bulbs contain electronic control gear that is sensitive to heat, and can fail prematuely if fitted in an enclosed luminaire. The recomendation is that low energy bulbs should only be used in a luminaire that is open at the top and bottom.

OK thanks, one of the fittings I have had a problem with is enclosed, I'll remove it from this and the other two enclosed ones I have in the house. One of them is on a normal pendant which I will replace and see if that works.

Ok cheers but they have actually worked and then gone out. I've moved them to another pendant and they still dont work so I guess they've 'blown' and I wont be able to use them again. Typical try to save money and its actually costing me.
