The vast majority of these types of sites are certainly underhanded in that they prey on ignorance but dont go as far as actually committing criminal offences with fraud.
There is little that you can do other than keep an eye out for unexpected post (obviously not just junk mail rubbish that we all get) and potentially check your CRA file every couple of months0 -
Hi Pesky2,
I too got caught out by one of these sites and paid 19.99 for the card - All they do is pass your details to the official NHS website. I have contacted the OFT regarding this website as I believe they should be shut down permanently. They were investigated several years ago after complaints, and promised to clean up their act, but this does not seem to be the case. I have also contacted my bank, so that they will be aware of possible fraudulent activity and/or identity theft. If I do not receive my card within the next 14 days then my bank will take steps to recover the cost from this company. I telephoned the website which I used to 'buy' the EHIC card, but they refused to refund the money, despite being informed that they were operating illegally and being referred to the OFT again0 -

What they do isn't illegal. Immoral maybe, but not illegal.0 -
Preying on people who click on the wrong links.
NEVER put your details into ANYTHING unless you are 100% sure of its authenticity. Check for official website - search online for mention of the website first because they're bound to have been spotted by someone else. There have been at least 3 posts about the dodgy DVLA site this week alone on here.
You wouldn't hand your card over to a random person in the street so don't do it online.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)
