Ok, here it is. I have converted my old PC to Ubuntu 7.04 with Beryl and all is sweet except for one little problem!
I have a NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A drive which refuses to recognise or burn to a blank DVD. When I put in a Verbatim DVD+RW disc the drive just click's a couple of times and then nothing?
It will burn to CD-R no problems.
Anyone know what might be wrong? The drive worked fine when the PC was running XP.
I also have a 10.4inch TVS LCD monitor that refuses to display an image when connected to the Ubuntu box. Am I right in thinking that I just need to input the correct V/H refresh rates via the xorg.conf file?
This is the screen

Hi
I use Ubuntu 7.04 too.
I don't know which CD/DVD burning application you've been using, but the best one (imho) is K3b.
I suggest that you install it using Synaptic and try again.

I am using K3b. I have also tried Gnomebaker and Graveman
but nothing works!"Gort, klaatu barada nikto"

Ah, your RW disc may already be written to by another writer such as Nero, which Linux apps might not recognise.
You might need to format it differently.
Try this:-
Open up K3b
Click on Tools > Format DVD +- RW
(I know that you said the disc is blank, but you might have used it and erased it with Nero)Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
Ok, done that bat, and K3b said 'success'. I will try burning a file to it
and see what happens.
Got an .avi file burning now but it may take some time(700mb)
I shall report back results"Gort, klaatu barada nikto"

K3b rocks
I'm pleased that it worked out.
I had a similar problem when I tried to append files to an 'open' CD-R.
None of the Linux apps would let me do it.
I had to boot into Windows and use Nero, because that's what I had used for the original files.
Then I washed my hands and came back to Linux.;)Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0
