Aviva Car Impound Insurance

Why has the car been impounded?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
-
If it was towed and impounded for being parked in contravention of Police or Council rules, then the answer is No.
Don't prevaricate - the key is to get your car out as quickly as possible, else you'll also be hit with storage fees for each day the car is in the pound. Make any challenges afterwards.0 -

Impounded for not having a valid licence.0 -
Do you mean a normal Aviva annual insurance policy for the car? If so - Yes, of course.
If you mean a short-term temporary insurance from Aviva, http://www.aviva.co.uk/short-term-car-insurance/,
It's not clear whether you would be covered or not. The site makes clear that you can't use a short-term policy to tax a car even though the policy complies with the relevant laws on compulsory insurance.
I would make a guess that it wouldn't cover you to recover a seized vehicle unless it was seized after the policy was already in force, otherwise it would be wide open to abuse and increase the levels of uninsured cars, which is not in Aviva's interest (as a major motor insurer). We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

Could a local friendly garage collect it for a small fee and return to you? If it needs a service or something, you could probably get it collected for free.0

May not work. Some forces insist that the vehicle must be explicitly stated on the insurance certificate and trade insurance can not be used to release a vehicleThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Police forces can't make any such stipulations. If a certificate is produced which provides the legal RTA cover to someone to release a vehicle, they MUST release it.
But even if you have insurance cover which covers the policyholder (or employees) to drive other cars, nowadays just about every certificate specifically states that it cannot be used to provide cover on a seized vehicle other than the vehicle named on the certificate. In this case, the police can and will refuse to release the car.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

But if the OP didn't hold a valid driving licence, wouldn't the insurance be invalidated too?I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

The insurance doesn't have to cover the owner or the driver at the time it was seized.
Any person with a valid licence and insurance allowing them to recover the seized car can be nominated to recover the vehicle by the keeper or owner.
