Change of address updates?

Hello

When moving, when do you ring up the bank and every other company you deal with to change address? Before or after you move?

Thanks!

Some companies will still insist the instruction is in writing.
You can write to them and say with effect from 01/01/01 my new adress will be....I would be grateful if you could update your records accordingly.....

  • A lot of banks have a form which you print out and send to them (I did this a few months ago) and as LEJC said, they have a bit for an "effective from" date.

The following site has some good checklists for moving:

    http://www.helpiammoving.com/

We printed them off and used them to make sure we had everyone covered. They also had some suggestions we hadn't thought of and plenty of free advice on moving.

Just click the "Checklists" drop down menu.

    Hope this helps.

Don't forget to set up the mail redirection a few days before completion (I think it takes 5 working days to take effect, but check this). This means you can inform the important ones immediately but take your time over the others, safe in the knowledge that if they write to you in the meantime, you'll get the redirection.
