Car Impound Insurance- HELP!!!

My car has been impounded as my license has been revoked as I forgot to surrender it when I got 3 points.
It turns out that because I started my policy after it has been revoked Elephant has decided to cancel my policy.

I'm not stuck in limbo.

-Can't get new insurance policy as I don't have a license.
-Can't insure someone else as all insurance companies only allow the registered keeper to be insured.
-Even specialist car impound insurance companies won't insure someone who isnt the registered keeper.
-The police won't let me transfer the car to someone else or declare the car off road.

WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?!!

Oh and I forgot to mention, the police will "destroy" my car in 7 days if I don't get it out.

This is wrong, plenty of insurers will allow you to insure a vehicle that you dont own.

Doing a dummy quote on CompareTheMarket with a friend as the vehicle owner/ keeper brings back quotes from Admiral brands, Broker King, Acorn to name but a few

It doesn't have to be you that holds insurance to recover the car.

It is certainly possible for someone else to take insurance on a car they don't own and aren't the keeper of, but not every insurer will do so, and those that do might charge more.

If a friend / relative were to buy a policy and take that certificate with you to the police station with their licence, the police should authorise the release. The "Driving Other Cars" cover included with some policies will almost certainly not be adequate because they usually exclude seized cars.

You have 28 days to recover the car, not 7 days; but every extra day will cost more in fees.

Even if you never recover the car, you are still liable for the seizure and storage fees, so it's worth getting it out ASAP even to sell it straight away.

Highway will provide you with a policy allowing you to secure the release of the car. Aviva used to, not sure if they still do but definitely worth a try

Incorrect. I'm the policy holder on a car for which I'm not the registered keeper. Some will allow it but there are probably requirements such as the registered keeper being a family member.

My first port of call would be comparison sites, followed by a trip to your local broker.

Can't you just get a friend to buy one-day insurance for the car?

It doesn't matter about not being the keeper or owner - a purpose of short-term insurance is so that people can drive others' cars, eg test-drives.

Temporary insurance often excludes the release of a seized car.

    For example
    http://www.rac.co.uk/insurance/day-insurance/summary-of-cover/
    Eligibility:
The customer and any other person who will drive must:
Not be using this insurance for the purpose of removing an impounded vehicle from a compound.
