Rumours about BT price increases etc.

I've heard on the grapevine that BT is to make some price changes on 1st June and some more on 1st August:

June 1st - the cost of BT Together Option 3 is to be reduced by £2/month (to £7.95/month);

June 1st - the cost of BT Together Option 2 is to be reduced by 50p/month (to £3.45/month);

August 1st - 'included' weekend UK 01/02 calls are to be removed from BT Together Option 2 (and 3?) - so that will now only include 'free' evening calls.

Date unknown - there's also a rumour that BT is to follow Virgin Media and increase its 'call set-up fee' for chargeable calls from 3p to 6p. That's unconfirmed at the moment - I'll update if I hear any more.

I find it incredible that BT should even contemplate such changes after the recent PR disaster of changing the way the monthly DD discount was presented - what was a discount, suddenly became a penalty charge!

In fact, even if the grapevine is correct, I can't see how any changes could be introduced on 1st June - perhaps they're just going to be announced?

    I haven't had very long to look at the figures but I made the price for BT Option 2 to be £13.95/month reduced from £14.70 but for the 1st 12 months you get an additional discount of £2/month (= £11.95/month)

    Option 3 would be down to £18.95/month from £20.70, though you can also get BT Together Option 3 free for 3 months as part of this (subject to a 12 month contract)

    (all prices assuming paper free billing and direct debit etc)

    Sunil.

    Does this mean that OPT 3 on a 12 month contract with £11 a month rental it will be 9 months at 7.95p a month and 3 months free an average of approx 5.97p a month over the year.

    A lot of alternative suppliers will need to rethink their packages,
    But the 18185 and primus saver 2 combo still takes a lot of beating.:D

    Can anyone tell me why BT now charge me £12.47 for option 1, it was £10.73 according to my bank last month and previous months and BT web site option 1 says £10.73.

    I dont use BT for calls although I do have the free call minder for about a year and never been charged until maybe now.
    I cant find anything on BT web site under my account, and I dont have paper billing and pay by DD

    I would GUESS that as its £11pcm youre not being charged 'exact' months at a time, hence the price variation...or they twigged to your caller display. :P

    If you dont place any calls through BT they now charge you for basic 1571 and Bt privacy caller display.

    You can avoid the charge,s if you make 2 calls/month via BT. Just put two evening and weekend calls at 5.5p each through BT to avoid it.

    In BT's own words:

    "The Special Offer price of £10.50* inc VAT per month for BT Together Option 3 will be applied for the first 3 months of the minimum period, thereafter the full price, currently £18.45* inc VAT per month will apply for the remaining period of the minimum period."

    ** for Customers who have Paper-free billing (otherwise add £0.50 inc. VAT) and pay by direct debit or monthly payment plan

    sounds as if BT may be increasing the direct debit discount to 50p/month as well (for some offers at least)

    It's getting complicated now (the grapevine info appears to have told only part of the story).

    It appears we'd better wait until the full details are officially published.
