Dwell in administration - please help me recover my money

Options

I bought two sofas from Dwell about three weeks ago. I thendecided to return them, so they were collected from my house and a few dayslater I got a call from someone who made a refund into my debit card - I know I should have used a credit card, I'm beating myself up about it. She saidthe money would show in three days or so. The money never got paid in. What canI do about it? I paid around £1,100, which is a lot of money for me. Pleasehelp.

    Why did you return them?
Have you got any proof of the refund.
eg. Date, amount, last 4 of card number?

While there are possible chargeback rights here. It is going to depend on the answers to the above 2 questions.

As a guide at the moment any chargebacks maybe on hold as no one actually knows just what is going to happen to Dwell.
A quick google does not even bring up who is the administrators... Given it is 5 days since they stopped trading this is very odd.

Also OP, is would certainly be worth your while reading this MSE article:

Dwell ceases trading Q&A: your rights.
  • Thank you very much. I have read the info and ask my bank for chargeback. I am not sure how successful this will be though. Any other ideas?

What is your worry on the chargeback?

If its the fact they have gone bust and you think that because of that, that the bank will not be able to reclaim any money.
Do not worry.... Money comes from their bank. :D

You shouldn't automatically assume that a chargeback will be successful as this isn't the case.
A chargeback works by your bank or card issuer getting the original payment amount reclaimed from the sellers account (and not just from the bank in question), but if that account is empty then there is no money to reclaim.

You are right a chargeback can be rejected. Hence why as yet we are not doing them at the moment only sending paperwork for customers to send back with details from the administrators. As it was possible that people could get the goods or someone bought them out and provided the goods.. Which would lead to a rejection of non receipt.
However, this has been updated today on the Dwell website.

But you are totally wrong on the bold bit....
Money comes from their merchant bank. It is then down to them as to how they get this back.
As far as the consumer goes they get their money back end of.
