but I still fell for a f.....g scam. Renewing EHIC and went to the official-looking site and paid my £20 for two. Perfectly happy. Realised today they are free and I have been conned. Yes, I should have read the minute small print somewhere on the site. but I didn't. I feel a complete idiot as I am usually mega careful. I guess the fact that the EHIC is free is in itself unbelievable.

This is a well-trodden path - there have been many posts here about people paying for EHICs when they don't have to.

I renewed our EHICs a few months ago at https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/startApplication.do

    Which website did you use?

TBH, I doubt that the fact that you could have got the card for free and that you were paying for a 'value-added' service was actually hidden away in the "minute small print".

I've looked at lots of these websites and all state quite clearly that you can get the EHIC for free and most even give a link to the free website.

I think that's why they are not being closed down by Trading Standards as they were a few years ago.
