Book flight now or wait and take a gamble?

I'm going to Phoenix for a month end of July to end of August and flights are currently £800+

I am flexible on my dates ( departing 19th July - Early August returning late august)

I have £1000 saved (but I need a little spending money from that too), do I buy the flight now or wait until right before and try and grab a bargain?

Every single time I have booked a flight in the past it has fallen after and I know £400-£500 is the usual price for that flight. Yes I'm looking in the school holidays but the immense heat makes that part of the country less busy with tourists at that time of year.

I can fly from LHR, BHX and MAN

I just need to get to PHX and I don't care if I have 3 stops and it takes 2 days!

Just wondered if anyone had experience of last minute long haul flights?

Last minute, at peak school holiday time is only going to go up, it is now too late to hope to get a great bargain. The flights that might come down in price are charters which need to have a very high load factor to make money but that is no use to you. The cheapest fares I can see are around £877 and the direct BA flights are over £1200 for mid week departures, you will pay more for flights from Friday to Sunday. My advice would be to book immediately

Could you possibly make your own open jaw flight?

Holiday pirates often find good flights to the states, for example look at this.

You could do that then fly Miami to Phoenix for around £250.

All in roughly £700. I know it would be a lot of messing about but it could save you money. Worth a look anyway.
What's gone will never come back. But it exists when you think of it ...
