Carpet or laminate what is better?

It's personal really but having moved from a house that was all laminate I now love my house that is mostly carpet. I had good quality laminate in my old house but still found it cold in winter and my dogs were always skidding on it which actually resulted in one of them damaging a ligament. Whilst certainly easy to keep clean, I found it most definitely not dog friendly.
However, I have invested in a Vax and good quality vacuum to keep the carpets clean.0 -
Flooring should depend on the room.
However if there is no choice cheap carpet in the rooms and vinyl in the kitchen/bathroom are easiest to rip out.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
Carpet all the way. Cheap laminate is cheap.Thinking critically since 1996....0

I'm another laminate fan - hate carpets! Would prefer wood but that's not happening. Laminate will never look posh but I don't think good laminate looks nasty either ... Good for people with pets AND allergies, like me
Outcome of this thread: carpets seem more popular but it totally depends on the individual0 -
I've had carpets laminate and real wood and too be honest i think the newer laminates are pretty good another option is vinyl cushion flooring0

Bought a house last year where lounge/diner and conservatory were both covered in the absolute cheapest B&Q laminate (£7/sqm)
Kept it down while work was done as easy to clean, but hated it all through the winter and at last it's going!
Ripped it up in the conservatory to find a worn but serviceable engineered oak floor that'll be sanded and sealed.
Lounge/diner will get a basic 80:20 berber with plenty of "flecking" to hide marks. Would never go for a single colour carpet.
Hall has oak effect laminate, will do for now even though it's a bit plasticy looking. Kitchen, laminate again(!) but that'll be left down.0
