totally impressive - go girl!!
when I was a student, my bank manager encouraged the same "cash in hand" approach with me - it's certainly stood me in good stead too whilst I have been looking for work
If I don't have the actual cash I can't spend itBlah0 -
Well done. Any addresses for begging letters gratefully received ;D0

We drive Robnye.
Live in N. Ireland so get ferry to Scotland early am (7.00), arrive London (where in-laws live) around 6pm. Leave early next morning and arrive in France arround lunchtime . Kids (14, 10 and 4) cope well with journey provided they have lots of pillows, a walkman each and plenty to eat.
We have found that to get the best late deals it is better to Phone the companies rather than book on line.

It really is a lovely holiday.......all the fun of camping but without the hardships and usually with better weather. Kids love it which usually means parents have a good time too.0 -
Well done Pink-Winged.
We're finally about to start the process of discovering where our money goes each month. (It's a mystery.)
Will be giving your tip a try, if I can convince my other half!
Hope that £10k has been in a tip-top interest bearing account. Now go and enjoy it. ;D0 -
WOW Pink-winged. That is amazing - good for you. You're right, it's so easy to flash the plastic and overspend on guff. I used to work full time and earned quite a lot - spent it like water. Now I don't work, therefore don't buy the rubbish - we're short of nothing and much happier without the stress of my job weighing us all down.
Congratulations, well done you.
PS (hope the thing in your other topic works out OK for you - didn't contribute as everyone else said it all really, but big hugs to all of you :-*).0 -
Thankyou flossie.
I have just returned to work in the last year after a thirteen year career break. But when I wasnt earning it felt really good to see the money grow. It made me feel I was contributing something.0 -
I posted something similar to this somwhere else, I did the same still do
I draw out housekeeping and spends for us both and when its gone its gone
we actually were saving at first over £600 a month one month £900
couldnt beleive how much wed been wasting
now we save out of our spends, dont buy anything without agonising over it first cos that means less spends all week (we have £25 each) and my spends mount up slowly but the old farts are great as he doesnt go out much lol
so I scrounge them out of him quite regularly ::) ::)0 -
Wow! I dread to think how much money I am frittering away. Anyway I've discovered that my current account is not paying as higher interest as it should, so starting next month I'm moving everything bar £400 to the savings account. This way I should only move money back when I run out of something. Hopefully I shouldn't be moving anything back.0

freeze the cards and take out the cash if you forget
use the atm at the supermarket before you shop
and just use the cash then like we used to have to not so long back once its gone TOUGH till pay day
and you make it stretch
we saved on eating out every sunday lunch and if we went to the shops popping in for coffee somewhere even when we wernt bothered about a cofee just habit
I would see something I liked and buy it end of story
then I realised that I was living a good lifestyle but it wasnt MY money that was buying it and all our cash was going out in servicing credit cards and a couple of loans
if we didnt have the debt wed have the cash
so first thing was to get rid of them all fast
then the mortgage in under 4 years then economise on wastage and frittering it away
no going in the garage with my card and paying for petrol, oh and while im here 100 fags, a couple of mags, a bar of chock, sweetes for everyone else can of coke
then your paying interest on it all!! I realised it had to stop we paid into a penison each so we could retire at 50 and we were wasting it all in the supermarket shops and garage
now we live on £500 a month for everything when its gone its gone but we manage fine
and were saving vast ammounts for our really old age ;D
the house is ours now instead of anothe 16 years!! saving thousands in interest
the car is ours paid for with what wed have been paying in mortage payments so paid in a year instead of 5 and worth a lot more when we sell it
and nomatter what nobody can take the house off us
a dread I always had if we couldnt pay the mortgage
its great that feeling of security I can help the kids out when theyre skint, we can go on as many hols as we want to
we can buy what ever we want but we dont need much now at our ages (52 and 55) weve got all we need
its fab
but it want always like this till I sat down and thought what we were doing and how it was affectiing us in the end
the credit card industry chews you up and spits you out without a backward glance so do the mortgage companies
weve been brainwashed into thinking they are doing us a favour allowing us to buy "stuff" but they are destroying our future wealth0
