Advice about being Pick pocketed on holiday

In Athens last week I had the misfortune of being pick pocketed whilst on the Greek Metro.
Before I travelled I took out travel insurance for the three of us who travelled via thomas cook, the company whom we booked flights with. We were insured for £300 cash each.
Uncharacteristically I was carrying my friends wallet which had an awful lot of money in it, over €1000 infact. I was insured but the problem I am faced with is that over half of the money was my friends. I went to the local police who ushered me into a quick written statement which they then hastily signed to send me on my way – looking at the statement now, it is regrettably vague and doesn’t distinguish between the fact that some of the money was mine and some of my friends.
The problem I anticipate is that when I contact Thomas Cook today they will tell me that because only one of us was pocketed that only one of us infact can claim leaving our max claim at £300, when closer to £700 was the amount stolen.
Could anyone offer any advice regarding the claim, whether we will be eligible for two claims etc.
Thank you.

If you are insured for "loss of money" then it doesn't matter whether it was on your person, someone else, in the car or in a hotel room.
However on the other hand they may be suspicious about splitting the amount between several people.
Do both of you have receipts (or statements showing withdrawals from ATMS prior to departure) that show that the money came from each of you?
If you have that kind of proof then I would have thought it would be enough to prove that it belonged to each of you.
e.g. if you both have bank statements showing cash withdrawals very close to departure backing up the claim.0 -
ah, fantastic. That shouldn't be a problem at all given that the bulk of the money was withdrawn from the same ATM a few hours previous. We should be able to provide them with appropriate statements, the bank receipts where actually in the wallet. I would add that although three of us travelled, the money lost was between me and one other friend.0
