Car Tax having bought a car late in the Month

Hello,

I am after some advice please, I just bought a used car on the 20th. The MOT is valid and I have just purchased insurance. Currently the car tax bracket is registered as disabled.

I know I need to change this and I have to visit my local DVLA office to change it back to PLG and pay the appropriate tax rate. The car is not yet in my possession, it should be delivered in the next 24 or 48 hours.

Say it arrives on Tuesday and I visit the DVLA, I trust I will have to pay June's road tax which in reality will be a waste. If I keep the car offroad in our driveway, not use the car and wait until next Monday (July 1st) to visit the DVLA is that okay?

Thanks

If you can get it delivered onto your driveway then it will be fine to leave it until next week to sort the tax out. You should not drive it anywhere until you get it sorted though.

Did you buy it privately or from a garage ?

I did mine on Feb 22nd, and it expires on Feb 28th next year, if that helps.

I hadn't just bought the car, though

It's a bit more relaxed when renewing. For a new tax disc you can only do it 3 days in advance.

    Thanks Lum!

I didn't know this, as I usually buy brand new/ex demo cars

Thursday 27th is when you can do it to avoid paying for this month.
