Buying your tickets on one of the early releases is the best way to save money on this one. Tickets are considerably cheaper than after they announce the headliners. They usually have one just a few weeks after the previous year's festival and another around Christmas/New Year

As for the festival itself - Several companies do charter buses from all points in Scotland, usually fairly cheap so working your travel to meet-up with them is useful. Parking a car on-site is a hefty extra and often a right chore with massive queues on arrival and departure.

Every form of sustenance in the festival area will be eyewateringly expensive and I think taking your own stove/cooking gear is now frowned-upon, so a number of simple prepacked eat-cold meals and snacks is a godsend. Stuff that won't go-off/melt if its hot and in watertight bags that will slow-down the booze is a particularly good idea. Don't do what a pal of mine did and pack her daughter-off with a neatly organised bag of dainty handmade dishes including pate, prawns and slices of ham - In a scorcher year!

Booze is obviously a major thing and although they can't take it into the arena/stages area, so have to buy it is allowed in the campsites - Again, it will be extortionate on-site but if you follow the rules on container types they can usually take-in a fair sized carry-oot. I have seen people pushing wheelie-bins full of drink but most get by on a bit less! - I'm not up to date on what is considered contraband but glass bottles (alcoholic and soft drinks) are most certainly out and the security there are not known for leniency on smugglers.

Camping - Take as little as possible and nothing that you are going to worry about losing/disposing-of if it gets trashed. As there are a few of them, they can all chip-in for a cheap multidome to sleep all of them, and have a "party space" too-boot. Otherwise don't take a good tent - Its no fun when some drunk heaves on your good mountain tent in passing or the girl with the funcy-food gets into a food fight and you are in the middle getting plastered in the stuff. Some TITP camp sites (organised by colour) have more of a rep for full-on partying/mayhem than others. Assume your lot are headed to wild party-central!

Get sunblock, sticking plasters, tins of skoosh etc before they go-in. TITP does get good weather years and people do get burned. Pack plenty wet wipes to keep them fresh and not pay silly money for the showers on site and condoms etc are a wise precaution.

Then switch-off on all thoughts of them indulging in filthy drunken and debauched revelry and hopefully they will have a fantastic time! :)

Can i add a couple of points...

If it's possible, get your son to take an old mobile phone with him rather than his current one (if its an expensive one). There's always a high possibility at these things that phones will get damaged, lost or stolen!

Also, if your looking online and see some cheapish tickets available, be very wary, and make sure that the provider is a legitimate and trusted source.

    Good luck :)
