New internal doors - which ones??

Hi all,
I would like to replace the internal doors in my house.

I am not sure which ones I should buy. Budget wise, I can afford upto £150 a door. BUT, I want to spend as little as possible.

I want to have nice looking doors that last. Wickes Chester Pine doors are a tempting £17 each at the moment. Are they good?

Also, their oak veneers are reasonably priced too.

Should I forget all these and buy solid oak doors?

We found a good selection of reasonably priced, reasonable quality doors at b&q...sadly we couldnt buy them as our frames were very odd sizes ans we eventually blew the budget on bespoke crafted ones from a local joinery...

However its probably best to opt for something reasonably substantial as the cheaper ones can appear to flex a little.

The other thing to consider is that it will probably cost you near enough the same to hang a cheap door as an expensive one so with that in mind its better to opt for reasonable quality over the cheaopest ones which you could end up replacing sooner if they break or just dont feel substantial enough.

When you say your budget is £150 per door does that iclude fitting and handles/hinges etc?

We actually bought some very good handles from ebay anmd they worked out far cheaper than most others we had seen

Whatever you do, don't buy the cheap white panel doors from b & q as they warp within hours of being unwraped. The equivalent Wickes doors on the other hand are fine.

Think about what you want the rooms to look like. I have cheap doors from Wickes, painted white, and they get very positive comments. Because they are white, they go well with the cream walls, and pale brown carpet. Oak doors are a feature, but will they go with your furniture? Pine doors are another matter, if varnished they have a rustic cottage look, but they might detract from nice hardwood furniture, or go well with pine furniture. If painted white, they will look nice, you won't know they are pine, assuming you knot them properly, and they will be more durable than cheap doors such as mine. I know mine might need replacing after 20 years.

So think about your decor. And think about how long you will live in the house. No point tarting it up unduly if you move in 2 years, and no point being a cheapskate if you live their 20 years.

My budget of £150 per door includes fitting and handles.

I am looking at wickes oak veneer doors. Are they suitable for Bathrooms?
I have 5 doors off landing upstairs - I want to have the same doors
