Sold PPI .....to myself! Can I claim?

Hi,
My PPI question is a little different from most (I have tried searching for anything similar) but basically I used to work in a High Street Bank and it was drummed in to us staff that we HAD to get customers to sign up for PPI and that it was pretty much compulsory (the branch had sales targets that needed to be met etc.). We were basically reprimanded if we didn't get customers to sign up for it and the customers’ needs were never taken in to consideration. We were also told, as staff, that we wanted a credit card it was also compulsory for us to take out PPI.
I had my credit card for over 10 years with PPI and was even paying for PPI once I left the bank and was unemployed for a year but effectively I sold the PPI to myself. Due to this, do you think there would be any chance I can claim?
I don't have the original paperwork for when I signed up for the card but I do have statements going back 15 years or so (the number changed several times so I have records of all numbers).
I have thought about claiming before but haven't do so as I feel pretty guilty as I know for a fact that I sold PPI to those who probably weren't eligible, plus the fact that I don't know where I stand seeing as I pretty much sold it to myself (albeit under the instance if the bank's selling policies).
Does anyone know if I wold be able to make a claim under these circumstances please?
Thanks

    Xmas Saver!
You didn't sell it to yourself. The bank you were employed by, sold it to you.
You have as much right to claim as everyone else.
  • Thank you OMO ....put like that it makes a claim sound more feasible after all.
As this isn't the norm and goes back quite a few years (I haven't had a card with them for about 10 years) do you think I'll be able to follow the MSE advise to make the claim myself or would it be more likely that I'd have to pay out for a company to do it on my behalf (which I'd obviously rather not do, but would do so due to the circumstances)?
    Thanks again

If you bought the PPI of your own volition, I can't see the Bank finding in your favour. Nothing to stop you trying your luck, however.
No one on this site will recommend that you use a Claims Management Company....they do nothing you can't do yourself simply and for free.
  • Thanks Moneyineptitude....I must admit that was my original train of thought, hence not putting in a claim before now.
Like you say though, it may be worth me trying my luck, but I won't hold my breath.

Does anyone know of any similar circumstances please? Just out of interest?

    Thanks again

I've seen several posts from ex-bank staff wanting to complain about PPI, but I've yet to see anyone reporting success (or failure).

If you can read and follow instructions, there's nothing stopping you doing it yourself. If you no longer have the account number, you'll have to send a SAR and £10 tot he bank to get your info. It'll help too if you have a count of what PPI you actually paid. See the front page for a template SAR

It's normal for it to have been given to people who dodn't need it, and as you worked for the bank, I expect they had quite a good sick pay scheme, therefore rendering the PPI unnecessesary.....
