We will be staying by Leicester Square when we visit in August and we would really like to eat in Chinatown as this is something we used to do many years ago in our youth! Thing is we haven't done this for some time and so I was wondering whether anyone has any recommendations for good quality and reasonable cost restaurants in this area?

We recently ate at Mr. Kong's - great food and service and the very reasonable set meals included a bottle of wine.

Well, that is certainly ideally located for our hotel (Premier Inn Leicester Street). Thanks for the heads up0

we've eaten at Harbour City a couple of times and found it good food and good prices - it was recommended in a guide book I think0

Poons if it's still there. Yummy food!0

New Diamond if that's still going. Not in the main chinatown street - in leicester square, go up the road by the Haagen Daas cafe and its pretty much straight in front of you.
Love it there.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Hong Kong cafe, brilliant food. Very cheap, great food & always full of Chinese people, which is a good sign.
It offers so much choice with good portion sizes.
Do go there if only the once.

Day time dim sum.....really unbeatable experience, and IMO best at the New World, Gerrard place.
Edit...since typing this yesterday realised dh's family have now had six or possibly even generation eating at the New World! Shocking. ( my own family are a humble three generations of new world eaters)0 -
Thanks for all of the responses, great stuff. Now we have a pretty good choice of places to eat. Any more recommendations are also welcome (the more the merrier!).
Thanks again for taking the time to respond.0 -
Can't seem to find this place on Google. There is a Cafe de Hong Kong in Charing Cross Road, is that where you were referring?LilacLillie wrote: »Hong Kong cafe, brilliant food. Very cheap, great food & always full of Chinese people, which is a good sign.

Pretty well any restaurant on Lisle Street is fine. In fact unless you're a large group, I'd recommend just wandering around and going to wherever takes your fancy - I've never had a bad meal in Chinatown!0
