Travel insurance for 2 year old?

Options
My wife and I currently have travel insurance via a company health care plan. However this does not cover our 2 year old daughter. We are travelling to France in July and want to make sure we have adequate insurance for the little one, both to cover the cost of flight should we have to cancel, baggage cover and medical cover. It seems as though to get her covered I have to take out an adult policy too? Are there any issues with one of the adults being covered on 2 policies? Any other thoughts?

Ta.

Neil

I assume that you each have your own travel insurance, covering only yourselves (not eachother) with each employer.

Are you sure that the policy does not cover your children when they are travelling with you? Certainly, a family travel policy would do this - they often also cover children travelling without their parents e.g. on a holiday organised by the school.

Have you called the helpline for the company healthcare plan and confirmed that babies/infants/children travelling with you are not covered?

My employer covers my wife and myself. The only way of including our daughter on the travel insurance is to add her to the healthcare plan at a cost of over £100, and that can only be done in April anyway... We don't see the need for this as we only really want the travel insurance...

A family travel insurance policy is going to work out at not much less than £100, anyway.

To your original question .... yes, you can have two policies covering the same thing, but you won't get double the payout, if there's a claim.

If you took out family travel insurance, could you cancel the company travel insurance? Or is it automatic, with the healthcare?

A pity your company doesn't allow you to mix & match (Flex) your benefits ... but that's a very different issue.

It still seems crazy that your children aren't covered by your travel policy, when they are travelling with you. Let's face it ..... most kids would only travel with their parents anyway (unless on a school trip, but they would be much older then).

Sorry not to be more helpful

It should be a lot less than £100 for 2 weeks cover, I've got quotes for under £20 for 1 adult and 1 child. Guess that's what I'll have to do.

The company travel ins is thrown in with the healthcare automatically. I will phone them to check before spending anything though...

    Thanks.

Ah, yes ... sorry, I was thinking of an annual policy, to cover you all, for the whole year.

Not a bad idea - would be interested to hear how you get on, if you can find a moment to post back :T

    "Eligibility
    1.8 Family members
You can, if you wish, include family members in your
travel policy. If your travel policy is included as part of
your AXA PPP healthcare private medical insurance
policy you can only add family members to your travel
policy if they are included on your private medical
    insurance policy."

That kind of answers the question... This would cost £170 so I think a separate policy is the way forward, just seems silly to cover 1 of the adults twice! Oh well...
