I'm lost!

I have had loans in the past, but dont know if i had PPI.

I've read through most of the articles but im just getting more confused.

Im not helping myself by not keeping any old paperwork, once it was finished / paid off, i shredded anything related.

So i know the name of the lender, when i started the loan, what the repayments were, and how much it was for. But dont have any account numbers etc.

Do i just write to them in the hope they will do all the work for me?

Thanks.

Mark.

Most lenders are now doing the work for any PPI mis-selling. I was in the same boat as you are now, thankfully my lender actually wrote to me! 3 letters later and approx 8 weeks in total and I have ~£500 coming back to me :)

You need account numbers to make a complaint. For this, as you say the aco!!!!s are closed, you need to send £10 and a SAR to each company you had a debt with, and then if there's any information left [because they may have destroyed it] you can make your complaint.

Just ring them up and ask, although if the loan was more than six years ago and (especially) if you no longer bank with this lender then there may no longer be any records available to you.
If you mistrust this method you can send a Subject Access Request (SAR) to the lender as -taff suggested in post #3 above.

The Banks are writing to people who had PPI where a generalised fault has been identified with a sales process (or even salesperson). So not everyone will be written to.
