Booking a Flight with a name?

Is it possible to book flights anywhere without giving passenger names?

I suspect you'd have to put some name in, any name
Then change it when you know who'll be flying.

It may not be economical to do so with some airlines/tickets

I think our travel dep't at work sometimes does that if they are unsure who's travelling

Indeed, it'll either be more expensive than simply waiting to buy until you know who's flying (since there'll be a change fee + a difference in fare) or impossible (if the airline won't allow name changes). At least that's how it is with every airline I know of.

when we booked our holiday with thomson/first choice we needed to add our than unborn grandchild to the booking, they added as miss tba (to be arranged) so can be booked without adding all names.

Booking a flight is different to booking a package holiday :)

The reason for my question is along with others I play for my country in sports but the team cannot be picked until Dec of each year which means prices are not great but if we could just add any names on the tickets at an earlier date it was save us a fair amount of money. Though we are talking about 24-26 tickets..

for a group of that sort of size and for that sort of group it would seem that some airlines might be willing to accomodate you...does the team not have any contacts (I assume that this isn't the first time the team has needed to travel)? Is there a flag-carrier someone could contact, maybe, and play upon the national spirt angle?

Maybe I'm being naive again but I would think that most national teams would have travel contacts who could make arrangements of this nature...for the average traveller probably not...for a national team, I would think that something could be organized whereby the team purchased XX seats with names to be slotted in later for the team members...maybe not.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
