Debt free in 16 months...?

Comments

  • Today I took advice from the credit card boards and applied with Barclaycard, they are offering balance transfers at 0% for 27 months which is long enough to clear my debts interest free (yay!).

I was apprehensive after the Virgin decline but used their own eligibility checker and was accepted with a credit limit enough to transfer both my cards. I had started to think I had a bad credit score...

I am so happy as the amount of interest this will save me is just over £1000.

Why the vet health plan and the insurance? Surely the meds would be covered in the insurance rather than paying extra to the vet?
    LBM.....sometime in 2013 £27,056. 10 creditors
June 20.....£7,587.....3 creditors left 72% paid

£26,200 on interest only part of mortgage (July 16)...will chip away £17,103
    £49,200 repayment mortgage ( July 16) £37,764

Well done on being so organised! Having a plan will definitely motivate you to get it cleared ASAP.

mobile phone - £34 a month, is quite high. Mine was about this, but I called up and got switched to a lower amount per month (I got a higher tariff as I wanted a cheaper phone when I got it). Most providers let you switch to a cheaper plan after 3 months.

The health plan covers boosters, 4 claw clips, 2 health checks, flea and worming treatments each year. These are not covered in the insurance, that's only sickness and injury.

It saves me about £90 and spreads the cost over the year

The mobile tariff has already been reduced, it was £39 a month and I plan to go sim only when the contract runs out as my phone works just fine and doesn't need replacing. I think i may even be able to do this a month early with my provider.

  • Hi all

My 0% card has been sorted and balances transferred, the fee means less of a reduction in overall debt this month but hoping to see this really start to drop from now on, can't wait!

I can't believe how motivated I feel to become debt free since my LBM and realisation that there are so many others in similar situations.

Next challenge is for hubby to start his new job :j

  • Hi lots of good advice on here already might I just add you mentioned Tesco do you have an Aldo or lidl near hand we recently started shopping there and are saving a fortune and the quality is just as good, we still buy some stuff from tescos but keep to a minimum just a thought. Well done sounds like you are well on track.
  • Hi TT180

Thanks for the reply, we do have an Aldi close by and use it for some things but not the whole shop.

  • Hi there,

I'm still on track to clear by 1st October, in fact I'm hoping to clear even earlier as I've taken on a second job which is not regular but still has some income each month.

The biggest difference has been joining the payment a day thread which has kept me really focused and one card is already clear :-)

I have also managed to get my food shop to less than £45 a week over the past few weeks which is helping!
