Booked with Alpharooms but paperwork from Booking.com

Booked a hotel with Alpharooms at a good price. When the accommodation paperwork came through it was from Booking.com.
Apparently my credit card was used to guarantee the booking and actual payment will be made during my stay.
Although I wasn't expecting an Alpharooms booking to be with Booking.com, I haven't got a problem with it.
But the small print says that there may be a fluctuation in price depending on the exchange rate on the day of payment. So will I be paying in euros as the hotel is in Europe, and if so, will I be charged for conversion from pounds to euros? Could it end up costing considerably more than the advertised price?
I have tried to ring Alpharooms but after lengthy periods of time being told how important my call is while I languish on hold, I gave up!

Was the booking made in sterling or currency?
If the rooms are say £50 per night then you will be charged £50 per night.
If you booked in say Euros then you will pay in Euros at the exchange rate when you pay. The rate can go for you or against you.0 -
Every booking which I have made through booking.com has shown two prices - the Euro cost and the equivalent in £. However, when I have paid it has always been in Euros and has matched the Euro cost per the booking.
The differences in exchange rate are just "swings and roundabouts", and are totally out of our control. If the pound gets stronger against the euro and the exchange rate goes from 1.16 to 1.20 then you will be better off, but if it went from 1.16 to 1.12 then the cost of the holiday would increase.0 -
I booked in pounds sterling and the paperwork shows both pounds and euros. I am told I will be paying while at the hotel so does that mean they will take the payment in euros?
Will there be a conversion fee from the credit card company (Mastercard)?0 -

It all depends which card you have. I use a Nationwide credit card, and when I buy something abroad or pay for hotels, there is a straight conversion (usually at quite a good rate if last week was anything to go by) with no extra charges/commission.
It is something which you need to check with your card provider.0
